03 Aug Forklift Buying Guide
If you have never before purchased a forklift, but find yourself in the fortunate position of needing a machine, there are a few things to know. A forklift is a huge investment for any business, and when you buy a machine you need to be sure that the machine you purchase will fit your warehouse or yard and the type of work you plan to do.
First consider the chores you plan to use the forklift to perform. You will want to know how high you need the machine to lift capably and safely. Where do you plan to use the machine? You will likely want a model that suits either outdoor or indoor use. Tires are another consideration. You will also want to know the exact specs of your warehouse and/or yard. How wide are the aisles? How tall are the doors? What are the space requirements between the aisles, and is there enough room for the machine you choose to navigate turns, etc. And the last mechanical consideration is how to accessorize your machine. How is the lighting within your warehouse? Do you need extra lights? Do you need safety-related accessories different than the standard?
It’s also important to be aware of the personnel you plan to allow to use the machine. If you have personnel with physical limitations, the machine you purchase should be able to accommodate (An operator with a bad back will likely appreciate a machine with quality ergonomics).
You will also want to consider whether you want to purchase a new or used machine. Your forklift professional at Anderson Forklift can help you decide whether it’s more appropriate for you and your business to buy a new or used machine.
